The Geneva International Motor Show postpones to create a more impactful event in 2023

Due to industry-wide issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile, as organiser of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), has been forced to postpone the event to 2023. While February 2022 will be cancelled, the steps already taken to evolve the platform will continue to be implemented, allowing for a more impactful show in 2023.

The Geneva International Motor Show gears up for its 2022 edition

The Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) has opened exhibition registrations and announced that it is on track to hosting visitors from 19 to 27 February 2022. The organising foundation of GIMS gives exhibitors until mid-July to register for the 2022 event. As the 91st edition, this show promises to be an exciting evolution, which is reported to be substantially different from the past, assuming favourable pandemic conditions.

Decisions of the Foundation “Salon International de l’Automobile” on the future of GIMS

The Committee and Council of the Foundation “Salon International de l’Automobile” has today decided on the future of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), the largest public event in Switzerland and has noted as follows:
1. The Foundation will not organise an edition of GIMS in 2021.
2. The loan from the State of Geneva will not be accepted.
3. The sale of GIMS to Palexpo SA is the preferred solution.

The foundation of the GIMS withdraws its application for a loan from the canton of Geneva

After the cancellation of the GIMS 2020 due to the coronavirus and the economic consequences that ensued, the Foundation in charge of the organisation of the event requested the Canton of Geneva for financial support. The Geneva State Council suggested to grant support in the form of a loan of 16.8 million francs. Since the imposed conditions are contradictory to the statutes of the Foundation, the latter is unfortunately forced to waive the loan.
