The Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) will be held exclusively in Doha, Qatar, in 2023. The event planned for Geneva in February 2023 will not take place, the ” Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile de Genève ” foundation announced today with regret.
“The Car of the Year 2021” award ceremony will be broadcast live from Geneva on the internet on Monday, 1 March 2021, starting at 3.00 p.m.

The Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) and Qatar Tourism announced today that the first GIMS Qatar edition will take place in Doha from 5 to 14 October 2023.
Due to industry-wide issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile, as organiser of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), has been forced to postpone the event to 2023. While February 2022 will be cancelled, the steps already taken to evolve the platform will continue to be implemented, allowing for a more impactful show in 2023.

A date for car lovers to put in their diary: ‘The Car of the Year 2022’ awards ceremony will be streamed online, live from Geneva, on Monday 28 February 2022 at 5 pm (CET). The Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) has opened exhibition registrations and announced that it is on track to hosting visitors from 19 to 27 February 2022. The organising foundation of GIMS gives exhibitors until mid-July to register for the 2022 event. As the 91st edition, this show promises to be an exciting evolution, which is reported to be substantially different from the past, assuming favourable pandemic conditions.
The Toyota Yaris is “The Car of the Year 2021”. The award ceremony took place in Geneva on Monday 1 March 2021, and was broadcast live on the Geneva International Motor Show website, whose team organised the ceremony for the tenth year in a row.
The Committee and Council of the Foundation “Salon International de l’Automobile” has today decided on the future of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), the largest public event in Switzerland and has noted as follows:
1. The Foundation will not organise an edition of GIMS in 2021.
2. The loan from the State of Geneva will not be accepted.
3. The sale of GIMS to Palexpo SA is the preferred solution.
After the cancellation of the GIMS 2020 due to the coronavirus and the economic consequences that ensued, the Foundation in charge of the organisation of the event requested the Canton of Geneva for financial support. The Geneva State Council suggested to grant support in the form of a loan of 16.8 million francs. Since the imposed conditions are contradictory to the statutes of the Foundation, the latter is unfortunately forced to waive the loan.
